side by side

our shadows fall
on one another
mellowing the light
so often harsh at noon,
yet this our time to run;
while others waste
this precious time
with weighty lunch
all rushed by work's demanding call,
we charge our batteries
in the ancient way
of distant ancestors,
we run and only think
or what we might eat
then return to work
replete within our souls.
