Midnight Bottling
Midnight bottles
darkly brown
wet and shiny bright
the lights are on
in brewerytown
i work the long long night
clatter-banging
tinkling glass
the headysmell of beer
midnight blue
where are you?
it seems i'm always here
midnight people
sleepy eyed
nights pass by so slow
stomach aches
pounding head
spirits sinking low
bottles jingle
as they move
noisy through and through
midnight madness
feel so bad
don't know what to do

We
arm-in-arm we wander
searching sights to see
seldom planning anything
whatever will will be
whereabouts are pointless
if we have nowhere to go
moving into time itself
our shadows melt and flow

Mindbend
from far Atlantic seas
come now crashing waves
to penetrate my mind
as well as soul
their cold power
now dulled by Gulfstream heat
still they blast in
after the surging all night chase
of Orion's silver chariot
disappearing now
into the Texas sand
and into our hearts

Sun in Halo
ample morning pleasure
found along the way
its a sentimental journey
on a February day
sunny morning jumpup
its early yet its warm
its a way to getup
to let that sunshine swarm
rounder than a halo
color of a peach
a bit of early freedom
is just within my reach
going to the Brewery on Farm Road 1845

Pace Street
growlin', growlin'
all night long
cars on Pace Street
sing their song
hurry, hurry,
sirens urge
as they scream
their mournful dirge
howlin', howlin'
winding gears
Jap bikes roar
assaulting ears
roaring, roaring,
through the night
the midnight train
of awesome might

A question of pretense
a moon-rippled dark is over us now
and a passing of sun-glittered stars
a chill from a new-morning day has begun
to erase those yesterday scars
a positive stance is the definite pose
that we now must assume for this day
thinking of riding the crest of a wave
to the tide-ruffled shore far away
a flight to Nirvana on fleece-feathered wings
will ease the mad dreamers mind
maroons and bright blues are the colors to choose
for a rainbow inside your own mind

A cold morning in early November
sundown's message came too late
for the winter wind to hear
the slanting rays of autumn sun
are bringing winter near
dull grey days returned on zephers
laced up with icy chill
the farmer's fields are fallow now
just beyond the hill
abstract lights from shining skies
are like a visual tune
twilight clouds are seen to march
'cross the early rising moon

Tides of life
'tis but a thing of gaucherie
to think you ride forever
upon the same wave;
for the waves are but
playthings for the moon,
and the moon appears
each day at a different time,
and each wave
is unlike the ones
before and after,
it matters not,
for all ultimately end
in a sigh of foam
at the edge of the earth. . .

The Rain Run
everyone was standing,
milling around, muttering,
five thousand runners
waiting,
like a giant flock of birds,
mostly similar in shape,
clothing, and temperment,
waiting to migrate, to fly,
we were a huge gathering. . .
the signal finally came,
and we all slowly advanced,
lifting off like some behemoth,
a flock of eager fliers;
it was raining so hard,
so unbelievably dense
that runners ahead of me
cruised into the rainfall
and then just disappeared,
while those behind me
seemed to materialize
out of the foggy clouds. . .

The wisdom of the Tao
He who knows much about others may be learned, but he who understands himself is more intelligent. He who controls others may be powerful, but he who has mastered himself is mightier still.

Going on
you came with tears
and left with smiles
we stacked your fears
in muddled piles
you came with pain
and left with none
we soothed the hurt
that love had done
life is one
eternal test
you live your life
and do your best

Time study
November 11, 2011
will be a calenderical phenomenom
and might be printed like this:
11/11/'11 at 11:11+11.11
November eleventh,
two thousand and eleven
at eleven minutes
eleven and 11 hundredths seconds
after eleven o'clock.

Living in the past . . .
when everything was yesterday
all we did was play and play
a little time to get away
to some familiar golden day
when everyday was standard time
and everything was so sublime
and all our moments superprime
and all our words just seemed to rhyme
we never knew the touch of sorrow
or feared the coming of the morrow
we rode the moment with the flow
and danced beneath the pale moon's glow.

Sitting quietly, doing nothing . . .
i sit and stare
with eyes full closed
and see the lights
of a different cosmos
purple mauve red black and blue
they flash and fly beyond
familiar lights smile by
at speed so interminable
they seem to not exist
yet my colors change and turn
fly in and out
winking past my sight
into darkness
spreading out before me . . .
